Alexandre Canonico
07 October–30 November 2024
Torino
Illustrating with sculpture, Alex Canonico’s work toys with the relationship between the drawing of the object and the object itself. His allusive forms are articulated through distinctly abstract lines, voids, shapes and colours, borrowing as much from the vocabulary of DIY as that of the artist. Material limitations are an important driver of his work, speaking to the impermanence of each piece and their moment of creation.
Alex achieved his degree in Architecture and Urbanism in 1999 from the Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paulo in his native Brazil. He’d later bring his architectural background to art, earning a place on the esteemed Postgraduate Programme at London’s Royal Academy Schools between 2017 and 2021.
He has held numerous solo shows in both the UK and Brazil, most recently at Ab-Abnar London and São Paulo’s Casa de Cultura do Parque, as well as completing a ‘Propel’ residency at Knotenpunkt in London. His joint exhibitions include a show with fellow nthspace Torino alumni Anderson Borba at London’s Kupfer gallery.
