Photographer, visual artist, and filmmaker Marta Bogdańska arrives at nthspace Torino as part of our ongoing collaboration with Almanac.  She will use the residency to continue her long-term multimedia project, Vive la Résistance!, which tells the story of animals’ resistance to the Anthropocene era in innovative and surprising ways.  Throughout, tales of animal defiance and refusal are deepened by archival materials and conversations with experts in the fields of science, culture and art, as well as collaborations with other artists.

Graduating with an MA in Philosophy and a diploma in Gender Studies at the University of Warsaw, her home city, Marta went on to study art at the Home Workspace Programme in Beirut, where she lived for over 8 years.  She is the recipient of numerous prizes and scholarships, including the PHotoEspaña award for Best International Photographic Publication in 2022 for her book Shifters.
Nothing short of prolific, nthspace Torino is—remarkably—her 11th residency, following stints at Gasworks (London), Landskrona Foto (Landskrona, Sweden), and Nida Art Colony (Nergina, Lithuania), among others.  To date, she has directed 11 short films and video essays, including Unicorn, In-Between and Next Sunday.  Her work has been exhibited all over the world, including at Fotografia Europea Festival (Reggia Emilia, Italy), the Centre for Contemporary Photography (Melbourne), the Musée des Beaux-Arts Le Locle (La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), and the Thessaloniki PhotoBiennale.
