Josephine Baker interrogates industrially-processed materials for memories of the economic and ideological forces that produced them. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, she reimagines the materials as dream-like landscapes beset by natural phenomena.
Josephine completed her BA at Central Saint Martins and postgraduate diploma at the Royal Academy Schools in her native London. From the latter she graduated with the Andre Dunoyer de Segonzac Hon RA Prize, then won a Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting and Sculpture to the British School at Rome.
She has had solo shows across Europe, most recently at St. Chads, Nir Altman, Frieze London, V.O. Curations and ChertLüdde, and has even been exhibited at the British Museum. A book of her drawings, Submarines, was published by Nir Altman in 2022.
